Three Phases of Care
One of the most common questions patients have is, "how long will it take to get better?" This depends on your goals. For most people, their goal is simply to get out of pain as quickly as possible, and that's our main goal too. For others, their goals go beyond simply pain reduction, because they want to improve the quality and function of their life. They may want to play with their grand-kids, exercise without discomfort, or return to playing sports. This requires going beyond the pain relief, and into another phase: injury resilience and return to function. Our office categorizes treatment into three distinct phases of care, so we're going to review what each phase entails.
Phase 1: Pain Relief
In this phase of care, our goals are about controlling your pain without drugs or surgery.
Phase 2: Injury Resistance and Return to Function
Decrease the recurrence and severity of injuries while improving the rate of recovery.
Phase 3: Performance Care
You can think of this as the training room for optimal functional performance. In this phase of care, you are attempting to meet or exceed your pre-injury performance and return to your sport or activity.
- Exceed physical goals
- Optimal sport performance
- Maintain injury resistance, activities of daily living
Frequency & Duration
- 1-2 visits per month
- Duration dependent on doctor's recommendations
